Innovation

"[E]very tree was created differently, so beautiful. Each one was created in its own unique way. This is why we were taught to keep the land, why we started this Initiative. Let’s hold onto these gifts from the Creator. We have been richly blessed; especially the land where everything that we have been blessed with is found."

-Elder Ellen Peters (in Translation)

In accordance with Keeping the Land, we are tasked with ensuring that every tree harvested is put to its best-end and highest value end use. This requires us to be at the forefront of innovation, whether it be using cutting edge tools to monitor and measure the forest, or collaborating on research that identifies new forest products opportunities. We continue to work with leading academics in forestry, fire management, biomaterials, and operations research to further this aim.

Our team of drone pilots, professional foresters, forest technicians, and Indigenous Knowledge experts work together to build consensus around creative and innovative ways to measure and manage the forest on behalf of Pikangikum.
