Alex Peters, president of Whitefeather Forest Community Resource Management Authority (WFCRMA) yesterday met with His Majesty King Charles III, Prime Minster Mark Carney, and Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture Steven Guilbeault in Ottawa at a special community gathering event organized in conjunction with the Department of Canadian Heritage. WFCRMA was invited to this event as a First Nations led natural resources company with a strong focus on sustainability and as an Affiliate Member of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance.

Among other things, they discussed our forestry initiative, the Wildfire Resilient Landscapes Network, and the upcoming Berens River Bridge project.
Following the Royal visit, Mr. Peters also participated in an event where he spoke about the Whitefeather Forest Initiative and the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance to the general public.
The mandate of the Whitefeather Forest Initiative is to provide training and employment opportunities for Pikangikum First Nation youth via a Whitefeather Forest Products Enterprise. Started in the 1990s in accordance with the vision of Pikangikum Elders, the Initiative represents the first (and to date only) First Nations single-entity Sustainable Forest License in Ontario and in the Far North. The Initiative is in the process of developing a new-build, enterprise-scale forest products facility in the Whitefeather Forest to deliver on this mandate from the Pikangikum Elders, as set out in Keeping the Land, the first land use strategy in the Far North.

The Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) initiative was established in 2020 by His Majesty King Charles III (formerly His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales), and became a registered charity in September 2023. The CBA aims to accelerate the transition to a nature-first economy that is both powered by nature and prospers in harmony with it. It delivers transformative impact at scale through its global network of Living Labs that blend science, technology and indigenous knowledge to holistically regenerate landscapes, support communities and rethink value chains.
